HealthSpring plans offer customers many options for 2027
PR Newswire
CHICAGO, Oct. 1, 2026
- Vision, hearing and dental coverage available in all Medicare Advantage (MA) HMO plans
- Retaining all $0 premium MA plans that were offered in 2026
- All D-SNPs (dual eligible special needs plans) include a quarterly healthy grocery allowance for eligible members who qualify for the benefit.
CHICAGO, Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — HealthSpring reaffirmed its commitment to Medicare today by announcing it will be offering Medicare Advantage (MA) plans in 450 counties in 24 states for the upcoming Annual Enrollment Period.
The MA offerings largely focus on HMOs in key geographies with strong local partnerships. However, there’s still choices for every budget and lifestyle, including PPOs, Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNP) for those who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid1, and Chronic Condition Special Needs Plans (C-SNP) for people with certain qualifying chronic health conditions.2
Additionally, HealthSpring offers Medicare Supplement plans and Prescription Drug Plans (PDP) across most of the nation.
“Despite changing market conditions, we remain committed to Medicare,” said Stephen Harris, President, Government Markets with Health Care Service Corporation, which includes HealthSpring. “It’s important to our long-term strategy of being trusted partners to our members and their families throughout their lifetimes.”
Medicare Advantage plans
MA plans provide additional benefits not available in “original” Medicare. All of HealthSpring’s MA HMO plans provide vision, hearing and dental coverage. Most include no-cost fitness programs, home-delivered meals at no extra cost following hospitalization3, and prescription drug coverage.
Other benefits available by plan may include:
- Transportation to and from health-related services, such as doctor’s appointments and trips to the pharmacy4
- Allowance for over-the-counter health-related products
- Virtual care options for nonemergency urgent care, behavioral health, dermatology and speech therapy
- Online tool for advance care planning
Plans remain affordable with zero premium options in many markets as well as some plans that provide members with a rebate on part of their Part B premium.5
Special Needs Plans
HealthSpring is expanding its C-SNPs to the Winston-Salem, N.C., and Spartanburg, S.C., areas this year, bringing C-SNPs to a total of 61 counties. They are designed to help members who have diabetes, chronic heart failure, and certain cardiovascular disorders.
Most C-SNPs, and all D-SNPs, include a quarterly allowance to eligible participants for purchasing healthy groceries.6 The allowance varies from $50 to $400 per quarter depending upon the plan.
All HealthSpring SNPs include up to $500 in incentives for members who pursue certain healthy activities, such as completing a health risk assessment, getting needed health screenings, exercising, and volunteering. All other MA plans include up to $300 in incentives, which is a $100 increase from the previous plan year. All plans are adding three qualifying activities for incentives in 2027. They are: getting vaccinated, having a bone density screening, and participating in advance care planning.
Other options
In addition to MA plans, HealthSpring’s Medicare Supplement plans are offered in 48 states and the District of Columbia. Customers also can purchase companion products, such as standalone dental plans, hospital indemnity, short-term care, and a combined plan including dental, vision, and hearing.
Medicare Supplement plans often are paired with a standalone PDP. For 2027, HealthSpring will be returning as a true national PDP player with plans being offered in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico. PDP options include the following:
- HealthSpring Assurance Rx: This plan is for people who receive Extra Help or need basic protection. It includes moderate premiums with $0 copay or 5% coinsurance and low cost shares on many generics.
- HealthSpring Extra Rx: Available in select markets, this plan includes a broad network and larger drug formulary. It offers $0 deductible for many generics and affordable cost shares.
2027 Annual Enrollment Period
The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period begins Oct. 15 and continues through Dec. 7. Most plans purchased during AEP are effective Jan. 1, 2027.
